How it all began

Why, Celebrant? A few years ago, I heard someone tell their story. They talked about training to become a Celebrant and it sounded wonderful. I loved the idea, in fact, the more I thought about it, the more I realised I had a lot of skills & past experience which made me perfect for conducting ceremonies!

A year or so later, my granny passed away quite suddenly. I went to help arrange her funeral, part of that included reading at the ceremony. I wrote up as much of granny's life story as I knew and spoke at her funeral, honouring her the best way I knew how. Later that day I spoke to my cousin and told her I wanted to finally get plans in place to be a Celebrant and that's what I set out to do.

Two years later and here we are! I am following my dream, my passion to be a Celebrant, to create personalised and original ceremonies.

I am making it happen.

It has been a journey borne of love, love for my granny & love for other people's stories.

My Story

Where It All Started

I was born in small town in Zimbabwe, Africa and spent my life enjoying sunshine, swimming, outdoors, beach days, flip flops, shorts & being carefree. Mid teens saw our family move to Portugal & by the time I was 21, I was off to the UK to build a life for myself. I've been here ever since!

I'm the eldest of 3, we have a Portuguese Father and a Scottish Mother, which makes for some fun personality traits. Most of my family live in Portugal, with some scattered in Switzerland & South Africa. There are a few scatterings of family here in the UK, but for the most part, it's only myself and my 3 wonderful children, all with wildly varying personalities & quirks.

I have not followed a linear life or career path. I married in my 20's, had children, worked part time in various different roles while moving across the UK. After divorce & in my mid 30's, I went to university. I was by far the oldest in the class, Mom of the group some said, and in fact I was old enough to be mother to some of them. I completed my degree in Event Management & I'm very proud to be the only one in my family to do so.

Years on, more studying, a 3rd child, family upheaval and some interesting experiences, I've arrived on this path - the path to becoming a celebrant with a story to tell.

When asked what credibility I had to come a Celebrant, I needed a pen, paper and a few hours to jot down all the life experiences, skills learnt & qualifications achieved. I realised my journey had led me to becoming a Celebrant.

With such a varied life story myself, I understand & see life's rich tapestry of stories in others. Being a Celebrant gives me the chance to unravel those stories, mould them into an original script & deliver them at your Ceremony.

And, I cannot wait!
